We had another great day! When I arrived to see my boy this morning, he was no longer under the billi-lights! I was completely amazed that they were able to turn them off so quickly! Of course there is always the possibility that his levels will go up and he will need the photo therapy again, but I am hoping that won't be the case.
They have also increased his feedings again, and not only his he digesting the milk better now, but he is already beginning to gain weight! This morning he was weighed, and is already up to
3 pounds! So in a mere 3 days, he has dropped weight slightly as he lost the fluid in his lungs (
a very good thing), then not only gained back to his birth weight, but surpassed it. I am in
complete awe of this fighting, strong little boy.
As exciting as all the good news was, the definite highlight of the day was that I was finally able to hold him. That's right, today, even sooner than we thought, I was able to hold my baby for about 10 minutes. It was quite a production to get him out of his bed, what with all the wires and tubes and monitors and all, but it was so completely worth it.
It is probably hard to truly grasp just how small he is from the pictures, but believe me, he is unbelievably tiny. I hardly felt like I was holding anything at all!
It was so wonderful to finally cuddle with my little boy, to feel him breathe and wiggle, and to watch him sleep peacefully in my arms. He needed a little extra oxygen to help support his breathing while being out of his bed, and getting so much stimulation, but he handled it like a champ.
We're hoping that as long as he is still doing well, dad will get his turn to hold him tomorrow! But today, I am thankful that he made it through another day,
even stronger than the day before.
Such great news! He's a very strong little boy. Blessings!
